A joint pre­sen­ta­tion by David Faith­full (artist), Kate Sloan (Assis­tant Direc­tor, Peter Pot­ter Gallery) and Diana Steven­son (cura­tor) to dis­cuss the work they have being doing to explore the envi­ron­men­tal, social and cul­tural impli­ca­tions of the clo­sure of Cocken­zie Power Sta­tion. This talk is intended to open up debate about the poten­tial for a longer arts project involv­ing the speak­ers and other local groups and agen­cies. Artist David Faith­full will dis­cuss his cur­rent exhi­bi­tion Earth, Wind and Fis­sion, which engages with the his­tory of power-production in the region, mark­ing the clo­sure of Cocken­zie power sta­tion. Kate Sloan will give an overview of the gallery’s pro­gram­ming and how this exhi­bi­tion fits with the gallery’s Mon­u­ment Project. Cura­tor Diana Steven­son will dis­cuss the research she has been car­ry­ing out, look­ing at var­i­ous aspects of the Power Station’s life, work and clo­sure. The pre­sen­ta­tion will focus on the diverse issues raised by the Power Sta­tion, from the building’s archi­tec­tural sig­nif­i­cance to its place within the broader con­text of indus­try in the Forth estuary.
